"Prophecies" GvG Mode
Let's face it, based on the current popular opinion around here, PvP is dying/dead. Nightfall seems to be the common factor that dealt the final blow. GvG's have become nothing more than "break the enemy's prot or be broken". Variety is scarce. Etc. Etc. As a fix, I propose the following:
"Prophecies" GvG Mode would be introduced in an update. To enable the mode, you would check a box at the character creation screen. This would change the rune and insignia system and disable the use of any skill other than those of Prophecies and maybe Factions. GvG's would be initiated as normal, but you would only be able to play against other "Prophecies" teams.
The characters created through this system can only be PvP characters obviously, but I don't think this is a problem. It's the only practical way to be able to go "back in time" like this.
I understand that this would be a HUGE update, but honestly, the current PvP situation isn't holding onto people like it used to. Everyone seems to be nostalgic for the days of the pre-powercreep, so that's my suggestion in trying to make it real.
Time is short, so I'll just leave it at that. Questions, comments, advice, etc?

Actually I'd like to see some form of 8v8 pvps where all players on one side are limited to skills from the same campaign and core skills. And maybe it'd take a HA type quality where the "HoH" would be the best teams from each compaign going against one another (it'd also serve to remind Anet to keep the older skills up to par).

I've heard this mentioned from lots of gvgers who were around back then. Personally, I'd like to see it coupled with an in-game sealed deck system. However, I think we all know none of this will happen.

Thought it probably won't happen, I'd like to see this.
It seems just a bit more fair to those who aren't rich enough for all 3 games.

That's basically 'closed decks'
I think they are considering those.
Haven't been Nightfall or Prophecies only tournament already, they could let people choose their decks, and fight only those with the same deck.

I would love it if, now that they dont have to push the newest campaign by nerfing the old ones, perhaps Prophecies and Factions could each have a buff, then it would be even more worthwhile having single chapter PvP.

My alliance has a guild for 2nd accounts. Most of our 2nd accounts or proph only and we run gvg on it. We find it funny when we beat people with it to. Proph only gvg is much more of a challenge anyways.

think if they just put in some kind over 8v8 random and 12v12 team style or a 8 ppl freefor all LOL that would bring alota people back to PVP We need more PVP diversity,
PVP=Battle Isles,Ab,few factions PVP AKA jade,Aspenwood.
PVE= 3 Giant campaigns+GW:EN and millions of things to do
can you see why pvp is dieing

The current popular opinion here is also that GW dies about 2 years back with prot bond nerf. Or something. Whichever it may be, the popular opinion is that GW has died long time ago and is fully decomposed by now. Yet for some reason, this doesn't reflect the true situation.
Has anyone checked the game to see if PvP is really dead? Personal preference as to what builds are fun or challenging or interesting to play is not really a criteria for anything.
There are still those who claim farming died on the day "X" was nerfed. And yet, people farm non-stop.

Now I don't play pvp so have no rights to comment really "not that it ever stopped me before "
How difficult would it be for the matches to have a hosting team and the host ticks what they want allowed or barred for that game.
Maybe its been considered already and is open to abuse or just too complex but I thought I would ask.

I really like this idea, I think it would be an extremely simple way of making new types of arenas, as well as letting people play guild wars the way(well close to it) it used to be, and even ways it has never been played before if there were options for mixing and matching campaigns like factions and nightfall only or prophecies and nightfall only.
It also is a way for people who only own one campaign to be able to participate and have access to everything everyone else has in those arenas.
I think it would attract alot of people back to guild wars, as well as breathing some of the life back into pvp without adding anything new aside from limitation options.

Gosh its a huge update. I mean it would have to involve restoring the original skill definitions, as obviously some skill combos work better outside of prophecies alone, not to mention modifying existing instances to disable skills etc..
Personally i don't think it's worth it for something that reduces the strategic complexity of the game.
As for the notion that pvp is dieing, i don't think it has anything to do with the skills, more with how a net mkts GW... I mean if u wanna play pvp alone and be competitive (have access to all the skills) u gotta buy 4 individual games... and if u play pvp alone what does that give u... the battle isles?Given the current situation, the chances new players wouldn't b able to HA,TA, GvG straight away either cos they need to establish that they arent noobs. Who THe Hell would buy four games JUST to play RA???

The strategic complexity has already been limited by the "balancing" and introduction of other new skills into the game. This seems quite contrary to what would be logical (new skills should equal more variety and tactics). PvP has withered from a beautiful art of tactics and maneuvers into a "break the prot and cleave faces" form of play. But, there are plenty of threads about how pvp is dead, so I won't go into it here.
The basic underlying theme is that people want the old pre-nightfall pvp back, so this is how i suggest giving it to them.

For sure, I had a break since Factions came out. I returned in the game recently. Before a break I played mostly PvP (GvG only), but now I play only PvE part of the game. I would love to see PvP days as they used to be!
